Who We Are
Know Your Dough is a local nonprofit providing financial literacy education to youths and young adults through schools and community organizations in La Plata County and the surrounding area.
Our mission is to create strong financial futures for our youths, young adults, and community by:
- Delivering high quality, life changing personal financial knowledge
- Promoting practical short- and long-tern financial literacy
- Empowering financial security and independence
Partnering with 9R School District, Know Your Dough has provided in-person in-classroom financial education to youths and young adults in La Plata County, inspiring them to begin their path toward financial literacy and independence. Teaching students the basics of money management lays a foundation to build strong money habits early and avoid many of the mistakes that lead to lifelong money struggles.
Know Your Dough’s programs are designed to keep the students involved by using experiential games, interactive activities, and FUN!
Our goal is to inspire local youth to become independent, confident, financially responsible adults.
What We Do
Since 2014, Know Your Dough has provided in-person in-classroom financial literacy education to over 9,000 students through trained KYD volunteer-educators at schools and community organizations. Our classes are fully funded by grants, local businesses, and individual contributions.
KYD typically reaches 1000+ students in 40-45 classrooms annually in LaPlata County. In the school year 2023-24, we grew to almost 1450 students in 70 classrooms! Our classes range from 2nd grade through young adult. Our largest participation is in middle schools and the most growth is in high school/ young adults classes. Classes are delivered September-May (corresponding to the school year), and classes are currently being scheduled for the 2024-25 school year.
