To keep campus as pretty as it can be, we often need help with mowing, weeding, and things like that. We are very flexible on days and times. We are also a very fun place to hang out so please consider coming to volunteer with us then stick around and check out the museum!

Help keep velociraptor Blue's environment clean and organized! Our 130 year old building that children play in all day needs help staying running in top shape. You can even play with they toys as you clean them and put them away!

This position involves a variety of tasks related to the up keep of a home. Ongoing opportunities include cleaning, painting, mowing, raking, and light construction/ repairs. Having an ability to trouble shoot and work independently is helpful. 

SASO is looking for interested community members to become victim advocates to provide direct service advocacy through our 24 hour crisis hotline, during law enforcement reporting, forensic medical examiniations and through the criminal justice process. This amazing opportunity supports people who have experienced sexual violence with compassionate care.  All volunteers must be 18 or older, complete a background check and receive 30 hours of mandated training.  Join us for an amazing opportunity to support vicitms of sexual violence during a crucial time.  

Off Site meal prep helps our residents maintain distance in a group home environment and provides a message of caring from our community. This opportunity is one way to volunteer while staying safe during the Covid 19 pandemic. If you and your family like to prepare meals for others the SWSH would benefit from your kindness. While some household have extra resources to make meals, we can also provide recipes, ingredients and bakeware. We welcome ideas and any contributions that you feel inspired to create.

Event Volunteers

Seeking a friendly face and voice to help out in our Durango office reception area answering phones, greeting people and possibly helping with light administrative tasks a few hours or days per week. We are flexible!

Rise Above Violence provides a 24/7 crisis hotline for victims of domestic violence and sexual ass ult.  Volunteer advocates are trained and continually supported by Rise staff.  Volunteers sign up for hotline shifts each month and provide coverage of the calls that come through;  that can mean talking with someone over the phone or meeting the victim with law enforcement if they are currently in crisis.

All Volunteers are required to complete mandatory training hours before you are allowed to be on-call, and Rise staff is always available to help you.

Fun, caring individuals are wanted to help make a difference in the life of a child! Program volunteers can help in a variety of ways including: homework help, board game buddies, technology gurus and more. Volunteer interviews will be held to find the best way to use your talents to help local youth. 

The Chairperson's responsibilities are as follows:

SOS Outreach plans to provide youth mentoring programs to at least 150 local youth in Durango and we are looking for new Mentor Sherpas for this upcoming season! These positions serve approximately 60 hours between November-March and most of the programming occurs at Purgatory Resort starting in January. Sherpas receive a free season pass and an opportunity to inspire our local youth to make positive decisions for healthy and successful lives!

If you're looking for something meaningful to do with your spare time, then become a Camp Guide with the Backyard Adventures Summer Program (LPBA).

According to the 2014-15 La Plata County Developmental Assets Survey Report, less than half of our youth feel valued by adults; LPBA needs your help to show that isn't true. We want you to be the positive influence teens need by spending time with them during program activities like painting, equine therapy, mountain biking and more. Encourage the formation of skills and values while building on your existing skills with training on Motivational Interviewing and Suicide Prevention.

The primary role of a Volunteer Cook is to prepare a delicious meal, as well as provide positive social time to the guests,  residing at the Durango Community Shelter. 

 Qualifications:

-     Ability to work independently.

-     Ability to have consistent schedule.

-     Willingness to interact with compassion and professionalism with people from different backgrounds.
